Things you love about your town…

The thing I love about Mullica Hill is that it is the perfect combination of urban and rural living.  Surrounded by beautiful vineyards, the drive home feels like you are going to a country getaway, yet it's only a half-hour from Center City Philadelphia.  Our Main Street has wonderful antique shops, restaurants and loads of charm!  It is a sophisticated suburb with warm and friendly neighbors and lots of great community events.  Our school district is award-winning, and it was a joy to send my child there with bus pick-up right across the street.  Convenient to all shopping and getting to the shore in the summer.  What more can I say?  Mullica Hill has it all!

Where do you love to eat?

We love Naples Restaurant & Pizza (Naples at the Warehouse) and they also deliver to your door.  We also love Tokyo Mandarin (Chinese, Japanese & Thai) and Crescent Moon, a very cool cafe.  Both are in the same shopping center as ShopRite which makes it all so convenient.

What do you love about the area?

We fell in love with the town of Mullica Hill and, specifically, our little neighborhood of Ewan, pretty much at first sight.  Having grown up in Philly and living in New York City, we craved the quiet solitude and were thrilled with having the convenience of local attractions and proximity to the big city at our disposal.  And the shore was just a short drive away!  It provided a balance that we desperately needed.  No fighting for parking spaces or being a victim of unreliable public transportation.  We could jump in the car and get anywhere we wanted.  Or we could just relax in our back yard, or on our covered porch, and completely turn off the outside world.  Being artists, we needed the serenity, but we also needed the sensory stimulation of beauty and texture.  The surrounding landscape is both breathtaking and humbling.  Seeing cows and horses along the local farms is still a treat for us.

What were you drawn to when you bought your property?

Having land of our own was a wonderful experience.  Mother’s Day was always the start of the garden and we enjoyed recreating a beautiful landscape each season.  We chose to fence off a section of the back yard, so we have a place to relax but also an expanse of natural greenery beyond it.  This far exceeded living in any of the ‘communities’ to us.  Our home is historic to the area, built by Mr. Ewan, the man who settled the area, for his son.  It is of post and beam construction, as sturdy as they come.  We loved the historic nature of the home and the old adage:  “They don’t them like that anymore!”.

Utility costs?

Our expenses are very manageable.  Our taxes are well below the Township average.  I am so happy that we chose not to put in central air.  Having room air conditioners cools the whole house for a fraction of what central air costs.  We were diligent about upgrading all infrastructure (ex. State of the art septic system complete with its own alarm) and mechanicals.  We updated the kitchen and bathrooms but maintained the beautiful historic details such as the glass pane doors in the living and dining rooms.

7 Oil installed our new boiler and we maintain a service contract with them.  They are reliable and their fuel oil rates are competitive.  I appreciate getting a discount for larger purchases.  Alternately, you may appreciate a budget plan where they balance the fuel cost evenly over the whole year.  Either way, the home is very cost-efficient.  We have Atlantic City Electric for electric, and Comcast for cable, telephone and internet.  If you want to feel at home immediately and not be a slave to exorbitant monthly expenses, you will fall in love with 302 Ewan Road just like we did!
